An engineer at Nissan has designed a floating robot to eliminate weeds and insects from rice paddy fields much like the Aigamo ducks used to do in the past.
Known as the Aigamo robot, the self-propelled device has two rotating rubber brushes that stir up the water to prevent weeds from getting a foothold in the field.
Small robots such as the Aigamo duck could someday be a common part of Japan’s agriculture.
