Teddy Cotella, a farmer in Entre Rios in Argentina, is harnessing solar energy to draw underground water to irrigate his rice crop.
Although traditionally a rice-producing area, many farmers have stopped growing rice because the cost of fuel has made rice farming unprofitable.
However, Mr. Cotella’ is able to provide water to his 300-hectare farm, 10 of which is planted with rice, using 36 solar panels to power his pumps 24 hours a day.
