Almost 90% of Australian rice growers will not plant rice this season due to years of severe drought.
As a result, the country’s supermarkets may not offer locally produced rice by the end of 2020.
Australian rice planting and output decreased by more than 90% since the 2017-18 season while its national output for 2019-20 is expected to be 57,000 tons. This will be the second-lowest yield on record since 2007-08, according to a government report.
