A final application was made to get a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Wada Kolam, a fragrant rice variety unique to the Palghar District of Maharashtra.  Also known as Zini, the rice has an off-white color with small granules and good flavor.

Wada Kolam is cultivated on limited lands in coastal Palghar District which has a distinct agro-climate due to its proximity to the Arabian Sea.

The GI tag to the rice variety will give better rates to the Wada farmers and bring traceability and accountability to the Wada Kolam rice trade.
