e-kakashi, a cloud technology and IoT tool for collecting environmental data and integrates it with farming data to improve the productivity and sustainability of rice production, will be tested in Colombia.
The innovative product uses sensors that can measure air temperature and humidity, soil temperature and moisture, and solar irradiance.
e-kakashi (Japanese for scarecrow) has already been tested by CIAT at its pilot rice paddies in Colombia and insights from these tests will be used in deploying e-kakashi as an ICT-based solution.
The test aims to spread the commercial-level implementation of the technology to improve the productivity and sustainability of rice farming in Colombia and other countries in Latin America.
