Singha Sartha Bahu was a merchant in Nepalese folklore and is also considered to be a previous incarnation of the Buddha. Ajima (“grandmother” and “mother” in Nepalese) is a deity that represents all female ancestors of Newar who have been deified under the influence of the Shaktism branch of Hinduism and Vajrayana Buddhism.
This ritual at Bhagwan Baha, Thamel is a unique one. The priest performs this daily ritual, offers cooked rice to the idol of Singha Sartha Bahu and the idol of Jatika Ajima at the entrance. #kathmandu_an_open_museum #visitamuseumtoday #culture #heritage pic.twitter.com/rigi3e8Yxo
