Punjab Agricultural University-Ludhiana has developed three new rice varieties suitable for Punjab.
The new varieties, PR128, PR129, and HKR47, are early maturing. PR128 and PR129 are also resistant to 10 pathotypes of bacterial blight prevalent in the state.
Punjab is India’s third-largest rice-producing state with 2.97 million hectares on which rice was cultivated. Punjab was also recognized as the country’s best-performing state in rice production for 2017-2018.
