New irrigation systems and information are helping farmers in Lao PDR cope with seasonal drought and floods.

A 32.2-kilometer flood embankment-cum-road in the Hatxaifong District built under Greater Mekong Subregion Flood and Drought Risk Management and Mitigation Project protects 20,000 hectares of agricultural land and surrounding communities from flooding benefitting 60,000 residents.

It also provides more than 2,000 people in Xaythany District with irrigation water for agriculture in the dry season.

The project also trained farmers in increasing their yields through better management of the agriculture process, demonstration gardens, and technology.
