China launches a program on growing rice in saline-alkali soil

The Qingdao Saline-alkali Tolerant Rice Research and Development Center launched a program for cultivating rice in saline-alkali soil.

Saline-alkali soil rice grown in three experimental sites across China indicate that such a cropping system could boost the country’s rice productivity.

The center aims to plant rice in 100,000 million hectares of saline-alkali soil to produce enough grains to feed 80 million people.
