Electric rat traps installed in rice fields accidentally killed six farmers in Sragen Regency, Central Java in April.

The use of electric rat traps is illegal in the district as these are considered extremely dangerous to humans and animals, particularly during floods.

The government promotes harmless and environmentally friendly traps and keeping owls as natural predators to control the rodent populations.
