Fiji urges farmers to grow more rice

Fiji’s Ministry for Agriculture urged sugarcane farmers to help improve the country’s rice sector by devoting half a hectare of their land to rice.

The government estimated that rice cultivation on about 10,000 hectares of land twice a year will help contribute to self-sufficiency in rice.

Currently, only around 3,000 hectares of Fiji’s land is under rice cultivation.
