Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute and IRRI launched a project promoting the cultivation of drought-tolerant rice to support the country’s efforts to become the continent’s food basket.

Tanzania is self-sufficient but aims to export rice to neighboring countries and eventually the entire African continent.

The five-year project targets the southern highlands zone where rice is widely cultivated.
