Certification labels double the value of agricultural products

The sales value of agricultural products with authenticity labels are, on average, double than that for similar products without certification, according to a study. This underlines the economic benefit of product authentication because consumers are willing to pay more for them.

Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), and Geographical Indications (GI) for spirit drinks guarantee to consumers that these are genuinely made in its specific region of origin, using know-how and techniques embedded in the region.

Sales of agri-food and drink products protected as “Geographical Indications” (GIs) by the European Union is valued at more than USD 81 billion.
